默默地發現入手了好幾本Chris Naylor-Ballesteros的繪本；第一本是在圖書館翻閱中文版後很喜歡的「The Suitcase」，而「Out of Nowhere」則是嫩薑跟朋友在甲蟲餐廳慶生後細讀決定收集；「Frank and Bert」系列描述兩位好朋友Frank & Bert的互動的友誼故事，蠻貼近四歲開始有「朋友」概念的嫩薑的生活。
📖 Frank and Bert
哈囉！我是Frank，這是我的好朋友Bert。我們很喜歡玩捉迷藏，但是Bert一點都不擅長躲起來。「1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10。躲好了嗎？我要來找你囉！」
👩：「Let's count to 10 with Frank. One, two, three ....」「Here I come, 」
👦：「Ready or not!」
你看，他在這裡，或是他在那裡。如我所說的，顯而易見。
🔆 as plain as day：very obvious.
👩：「Can you find Bert?」
👦：「Here.」
👩：「He is hiding on the tree. He is hiding between _____ 」
👦：「Rocks!」
👩：「It's easy to find Bert!」
Bert說是因為我給的時間不夠，所以他無法好好躲藏。因此我決定給他一次機會：這次我會數到一百。
🔆嫩薑最近對數字顯露出興趣；每次共讀到這段，我們就會一起數到一百。有一次我偷懶不想唸完，就自己隨便用狀聲詞帶過去，嫩薑笑到不行！小孩就是這麼天真可愛❤️。👩：「Let's count to 100 with Frank. It takes time to count from 1 to 100. You ready?」
👦：「Yes!」
👩：「Let's go!」
時間到！我開始沿著線索找尋Bert；來到Bert躲藏的山洞，我停下來了！Bert一定會很難過的，如果他這次又輸了的話。我很想贏，但我更愛我的朋友，因此我決定...
👩：「Sometime Daddy or Mum intended to lose the game because we know you are now, at this stage, are not so good at it.」
「Bert我放棄了！你在哪裡呢？」然後一隻世界上最快樂的熊突然跑出來！我最好的朋友Bert終於贏了～
👩：「Oh, so sweet! Do you see the lovely smiles on their face?」「They are so happy for each other.」
這是換我來躲藏，Bert永遠找不到我的！
👩：「Will Bert find Frank?」
👦：「Yes!」
👩：「How?」
👦：「This blue string.」
👩：「Yeah, just follow this string and Bert will find Frank!」
嫩薑有一陣子很喜歡「贏」、「非贏不可」；每次玩遊戲輸了都是以大哭生氣結尾。試了一些關於輸贏的情緒繪本，或許因為故事內容直接講「贏的不驕傲，輸了也沒關係」，有點教條的感覺，所以效果不怎麼大。
這本共讀一陣子後，輸了大哭的情況變少很多！不知道是這本書的原因還是剛好嫩薑又回到了比較穩定的階段😆。透過Frank這個角色，或許嫩薑發現輸了好像也沒關係～
📖 Frank and Bert -The One Where Bert Learns to Ride a Bike
這本學騎腳踏車的故事是Frank and Bert的續集，是獨立故事；先讀哪本不會影響故事樂趣唷～
這是我的好朋友Bert。我們想要一起去騎腳踏車，不過Bert不太擅長這件事情。一開始起步很好，沒多久Bert開始搖搖晃晃...
👩：「What's on their head?」
👦：「Helmet」
👩：「A helmet protects your head.」「You wibble-wobbled too when you started to learn to ride a pushbike. 」
你懂我所說的了吧？
👩：「Oh ouch! Bert runs over this animal's tail! 」「Can you say "Ouch ouch go away to this animal?"」
今天我們又一起騎腳踏車了。Bert表現得太好了，因此我放開手，讓Bert自行前進。
👩：「Let's cheer for Bert. He did it!」
結果Bert又跌倒了！而且他對我放開手感到生氣，我得做些事情來彌補才行。隔天我和Bert分享我所想出的辦法；Bert覺得這真是一個好主意。於是，Bert坐上椅子，出發囉！
👩：「Wow, Frank put something on the back of his bike.」
👦：「A seat!」
👩：「Yeah, so Bert can sit on the back.」
沒想到Bert實在是太重了，載著他上山累壞我了。於是我請Bert自己先自己走路回家。
「不，我不會丟下你不管的。這次讓我載你回家吧！」天啊！Bert騎腳踏車，這會是個災難。
👩：「Sit tight, Frank! Let's go!」
沒想到Bert竟然在樹林間快速移動、跳過石頭，然後一路安全騎回家。「你做到了！」我說；「對呀！因為你一直在我身後陪著我呀！」Bert開心地回應我！
🔆 覺得這頁似曾相似，原來跟上一本有同樣的畫面。我超喜歡他們兩個眯眯眼的笑容，以及「You were right behind me all the way」這句話❤️。
📖 The Suitcase
這是一本有點悲傷卻又充滿溫暖的繪本。雖然目前對嫩薑的吸引力一般般，偶爾看一下；簡單故事線背後所隱含的「難民」議題讓我每次自己看完「The Suitcase」都會更感恩、珍惜目前簡單平凡的生活。❤️
🔆 和現階段的嫩薑共讀這本時，我是帶入「Be nice and friendly to people around us!」「We can help our friends when they need.」的概念。
有天有個奇怪的陌生人提著一卡皮箱出現在大家的面前；大家都很好其他箱子裡面裝著什麼東西。「一個茶杯！」陌生人說。「這麼大的皮箱只裝著一個小茶杯！？」小鳥驚訝地說。「但以前還有個桌子放茶杯，以及一張椅子讓我坐著的椅子。」
👩：「Animals are curious about what's inside the suitcase. Can you tell animals what's inside the suitcase?」
👦：「A teacup!」
「不可能啦！」狐狸說，「真的嗎？一張桌子跟椅子？」小鳥問，「是的！還有一個小木屋裡面有個小廚房可以讓我泡茶；那是我的家」陌生人繼續補充。
👩：「Animals don't believe what the stranger said. Cause the suitcase is not big enough for a table, and a chair. 」
陌生人睡著後，狐狸提議把行李箱敲開看看裡面到底有什麼東西！「你不能這麼做！那不是我們的行李箱。」
👩：「Who does not agree to break open the suitcase?」
👦：「Weasel!」
👩：「What does Weasel say? No we can't do that cause ___ 」
👦：「It's not ours!」
很快地，行李箱被打開了！裡面有破碎的茶杯跟一張相片。
👩：「But the suitcase was broken open. What do they find in it?」
👦：「A broken teacup!」
👩：「Also a photo!」
狐狸覺得陌生人對他們說謊，但是小鳥覺得陌生人說的是事實。「現在行李箱被我們敲開了！陌生人會怎麼想我們呢？」
原本破碎的茶杯被還原了！除此之外，動物們還替陌生人做了什麼事情來表達他們的歉意呢？
👩：「Animals feel sorry to break open the suitcase so they decide to ___.」
👦：「Fix the broken teacup.」
👩：「They probably use superglue to repair the teacup.」
「The Suitcase」故事溫溫的，讀起來後座力蠻強的；期待未來有天能和嫩薑透過此繪本來討論難民的問題。
📖 Out of Nowhere
「Out of Nowhere」以黑白主色調為主，搭配毛毛蟲顯眼的紅色，除了蠻有視覺效果的之外，也彰顯「紅色的」毛毛蟲/蝴蝶帶給孤單的「黑色」甲蟲溫暖的友誼。❤️ 有幾頁是完全沒有字句，給讀者自行發揮的空間。
某天我身邊出現了一位朋友，我問她從哪裡來的，她說她也不知道。每天我們一起在俯瞰森林的大石頭上野餐。
👩：「What are they doing?」
👦：「Picnicking!」
👩：「They are having a picnic on a big rock.」
👦：「What are they drinking?」
👩：「Perhaps they are drinking juice.」
👦：「Look! A chrysalis!」
👩：「How long will the chrysalis stay on the rock?」
👦：「Two weeks!」
🔆chrysalis這個字、這個概念是從「The Very Impatient Caterpillar」中學來的。「The Very Impatient Caterpillar」比較適合四歲以上共讀。
某個早晨我醒來後，我的朋友不見了！
👩：「Beetle can't find his friend caterpillar. He looks so lonely!」
👦：「The caterpillar is here.」
👩：「Oh! Here it is! It's hanging under the rock. But Beetle doesn't see it.」
我發現原來我朋友迷失在森林深處了～
👩：「Through his telescope, Beetle finds his friend in ----」
👦：「the forest.」
甲蟲拔山涉水，來到朋友迷路的地方，結果發現他弄錯了！
👦：「Mushrooms!」
👩：「It's not the caterpillar. What Beetle finds is red mushrooms.」「How does Beetle feel?」
👦：「Sad!」
👩：「He feels sad, disappointed!」
「我不知道我的朋友在哪裡」甲蟲沮喪地想。
👩：「What do you see here?」
👦：「A butterfly!」
👩：「Caterpillar has completely turned into a beautiful butterfly! Amazing, isn't it?」「Can it find her good friend Beetle?」
羽化後的蝴蝶會找到甲蟲嗎？甲蟲是否還認的出羽化後的毛毛蟲呢？
Chris Naylor-Ballesteros這幾本的字數不會太多，Frank and Bert系列算是相對多一點；繪本中用的字也算是日常生活用字，因此共讀起來並不會太難理解。
這四本最讓我喜歡的一點是作者用簡單的句子來陳述故事，共讀時沒什麼太大負擔，讀完後又能在讀者心中留下一些餘韻，例如Frank and Bert學騎腳踏車中Bert所說的「You were right behind me all the way.」這讓我回憶有點懼高的嫩薑每次爬攀爬架到某個點就不敢繼續，除了爸媽示範教他如何爬來減緩他的恐懼外，我有天說了「I will stay behind you all the time.」可以感覺出來嫩薑害怕感減少了許多，更有勇氣往上爬了❤️。
共讀除了是我和嫩薑的親密時光外，透過繪本我也收穫不少！非常珍惜和學齡前嫩薑共讀的這些機會～
